After the passage of the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) in 2021, the Biden administration continues to make significant investments in infrastructure and jobs in state and local communities across the country.

Thanks to IIJA funding, this past January the Biden administration announced:

$100 million to help lower heating and cooling bills for low income families
$27 billion funded by the IIJA to fix 15,000 bridges across the nation
$4.7 billion for cleaning up abandoned oil and gas wells
$2.5 billion of IIJA funding towards the Department of Energy’s “Building a Better Grid” initiative to modernize and strengthen grid networks
$3 billion towards forest fire prevention

AZ: Arizona water authority to get $18.5M under infrastructure law. “According to the spending plan, the $18.5 million will go toward the creation of water pipelines, wastewater treatment plans, flood detention and filtration treatments for rural and Native American communities.” [AZ Central, 01/21/2022]

MI: Federal funding to support greater broadband internet access in Flint. “Also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the BIL will send $100 million to Michigan to expand access to broadband–internet that allows large amounts of data to be transmitted at high speed. “Twenty-five percent of Flint families with children do not have broadband in the home,” said 7th Ward Councilwoman Allie Herkenroder” [Flint Beat, 02/01/2022]

NH: ‘Bigger ships, faster delivery’: NH Port Authority gets $1.6M for the basin. Why it matters. “With federal funding allocated from the $1.2 trillion, bipartisan infrastructure bill signed into law by President Joe Biden last fall, Portsmouth’s shipping waterways will be expanded and dredged to accommodate similarly hefty shipments.” [Seacoast Online, 01/31/2022]

NH: New Hampshire libraries share $825,000 in federal grants. “The money is part of the American Rescue Act Plan and aligns with the New Hampshire State Library’s goals, including expanding access for patrons of all abilities and improving equity of access by offering support to library staff.” [WMUR, 01/01/2022]

NH: Federal infrastructure funds make Vilas Bridge repair closer to reality. “It’s been almost 13 years since New Hampshire transportation officials abruptly closed the Vilas Bridge to traffic. But thanks to an infusion of federal infrastructure funds signed into law by President Joe Biden last November, New Hampshire officials have earmarked a total $17.7 million to repair and rehabilitate the Vilas Bridge in 2028–29, with preliminary engineering slated for 2023 and rights-of-way work in 2026. NV: Nevada will get $45M for bridge repairs under infrastructure bill. “In Nevada, the funds will be used on dozens of projects that include widening of the Tropicana Avenue bridge over I-15 in Las Vegas and ramp improvements in the Reno-Sparks spaghetti bowl, said U.S. Sen. NV: Nevada leveraging federal funds for home care workers. “Nevada Medicaid is leveraging an opportunity through the federal American Rescue Plan Act to offer $500 supplemental payments to Medicaid home care workers who have been on the front lines of the pandemic.” [2 News, 01/14/2022]

NV: Senator Cortez Masto announces more than $30 million in funding for Nevada public transit. “U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) announced that $30,551,703 she helped secure through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will be coming to Nevada to support public transportation, including cleaner transportation technologies, and help the state’s economy continue to recover from the pandemic.” [2 News, 02/01/2022]

PA: Gov. Wolf, DOT Secretary Buttigieg Announce Pennsylvania to Receive $1.6 Billion to Fix Bridges Across the Commonwealth. “Pennsylvania is set to receive $1.6 billion to fix more than 3,000 bridges across the commonwealth.” [PA Cast, 01/14/2022]

PA: Philadelphia’s art sector gets a funding boost through the American Rescue Plan, as organizers look to the future. “The National Endowment for the Arts is set to distribute more than $1.4 million to 14 arts organizations throughout the city.” [Philly Voice, 01/30/2022]

PA: Pa. gets $104M from infrastructure law to clean up abandoned wells. “That means the new round of funding represents a seismic leap for Pennsylvania, where the Department of Environmental Protection typically received less than $1 million a year to plug these abandoned wells, Adam Peltz, a senior attorney for the Environmental Defense Fund, told the Capital-Star.” [Penn Capital Star, 02/02/2022]

PA: Pennsylvania plans $25 million replacement for collapsed bridge. “Federal money will pay for the new bridge through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law” [The Mercury News, 02/04/2022]

WI: La Crosse to allocate remaining ARPA relief funds to clean water, housing, child care and more. “Four categories have been identified to spend those remaining funds: About 5%, or $1 million, will go toward small business recovery; 13%, or $2.5 million, will go toward childhood investments; 22%, or $4 million, will be for housing and neighborhoods; and 60%, or $11 million will be for water, sewer and broadband infrastructure.” [La Crosse Tribune, 01/06/2022]

WI: More than $20 million in grants going to tourism projects across Wisconsin. “According to a statement from the Governor, the Tourism Capital Investment Grant Program is funded by the federal American Rescue Plan Act, and grants can be used to build, expand, or maintain buildings, travel-related infrastructure, or public attractions.” [NBC 26, 02/02/2022]
